The full magnitude of the world's largest ever rodent has been revealed- the now-extinct monster was the size of a cow.
The creature weighed in at 700 kilograms and lived eight million years ago, roaming the lush banks of the ancient Orinoco delta in northwestern Venezuela. But the three-metre-long, 1.3-metre-tall behemoth was an evolutionary cousin of today's humble guinea pig.

Eight complete skeletons of prehistoric marsupial lions are among an astonishing menagerie of megafauna fossils discovered in a hidden cave in Australia's outback desert. Only partial skeletons have been found before.
Among the creatures, all of which are now extinct, are extremely well-preserved partial skeletons of giant wombats ( Phascolonus gigas ) and a three metre-tall short-faced giant kangaroo (Procoptodon goliah). Continued…
