It is easy to underestimate Sofia Coppola. There's her last
name, shining like a stoplight, encouraging doubt: how could
the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, one of the most important
American filmmakers of all time, live up to the standard set
by her father? Is Sofia one more bad case (there have been enough)
of nepotism taking someone where talent could not? There was
her notorious performance in ''Godfather III,'' and, right after

 Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation" is a funny, bittersweet movie that uses cultural dislocation as a metaphor for people who have gotten lost in their own lives.
The movie contains priceless slapstick from Bill Murray, who
also delivers a finely tuned performance with the beautiful
Scarlett Johansson, and a visual and aural design that cultivates
